Eastern Sky Wellness offers outpatient adult psychiatry services including medication and counseling in Maine and New Mexico. My practice helps to treat mental health conditions such as depression, bipolar spectrum, anxiety, PTSD, and ADHD. I also provide adult ADHD assessments and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I).

I enjoy working with women of all ages, especially those who are in life transitions. Supporting the mental health of nurses and other frontline healthcare workers and first responders is of particular interest. My approach to care is grounded in compassion and empathy and recognizes the uniqueness of everyone's experience. Together, we'll sort out what is and isn't working in your life and create a path forward.

FAQ’s

Do you accept insurance?

I currently accept several insurances directly through Eastern Sky Wellness in Maine including BCBS/Anthem, Cigna, Aetna, and United/Optum. In NM, I’m currently taking BCBS PPO plans only (your card will contain a little “suitcase” logo). I am out of network with MaineCare, Western Sky, Medicare including Medicare Advantage in all states. I am also on the Headway platform in Maine and accept a few additional plans for my ME clients through their site; please check my Headway page for the most current list of plans here.

What is the Green Bottle Method for sliding scale?

If you’re not using insurance for whatever reason, a sliding scale is offered based on the Green Bottle Method which better supports economic justice. Green Bottle means that essentially you pay what you can afford based on your standard of living. My cash rates are on a continuum and you pay based on the Green Bottles. Initial visits are 150-250.00 and follow-up visits are 75-150.00. You will receive the same level of care no matter what you pay. If the lower end is still out of reach, please talk with me. Read about the Green Bottle Method on Alexis J. Cunningfolk’s website here.

How do I make an appointment?

To schedule an initial appointment, it’s asked that you email julia@easternskywellness.com. You may also use the button “Schedule Appointment Here” on this website.

Do you offer free phone consults before scheduling?

Yes! Prospective clients can have a 15-20 minute phone consult before scheduling. Consults are not required, but can be helpful, and there is no charge.

Do you offer in-office appointments or are you only online?

At this time all visits are online and there is no physical office space where clients can be seen. Most of my new clients are preferring the convenience of home/online appointments and do well with this format. Contact me to discuss if online care is appropriate for your needs. Severe mental health symptoms, e.g., psychosis, traumatic brain injury, and co-occurring substance use disorders are some examples of when in-office/in-person support team is better suited. You must be in Maine or New Mexico for your appointments, per federal regulations.

How can you help primary care practices improve outcomes?

As a primary care provider, your time is valuable. Many psychiatric conditions are relatively easy to manage by your team, such as mild depression or anxiety. But sometimes medications don’t seem to work or there are other issues. Getting the diagnosis and treatment right can take a lengthy appointment with ongoing follow-ups. What looks like depression or anxiety could in fact be bipolar spectrum, and SSRIs/SNRIs will only make your patient worse. I can help you learn how to better screen for bipolar.

For your patients on complex psychotropic regimens, I can often help reduce polypharmacy by tapering off the ones that are not serving a strong purpose. I can also teach cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) for individuals or small groups to help reduce reliance on sleep aids.

I enjoy collaborating with PCPs, either on a one-time consultation or ongoing basis. For more information, please email me at julia@easternskywellness.com. To refer a client to my practice, simply send your request and a release of information to my confidential office fax 207-261-4388. I look forward to working together!
